Tank Track Re-Design

Our first year design project involved the re-design of a WWII era tank track and sprocket (original shown to the right). It had to be resistant to corrosion and wear as well as remaining functional.

To achieve this I re-designed the sprocket to have two sets of teeth in order to reduce wear, as well as adding rubber to the sprocket wheel and to the road contact surface of the track. I also chose to make the track and sprocket out of manganese steel as it has a vastly superior corrosion resistance compared to the original cast iron.
